The Claysburg P.A.S.T (Preserving artifacts, stories and traditions) organization held an outside walking tour of the Sarah Furnace Mansion Grounds on Sunday.
Due to the condition of the facilities and buildings, attendees were not allowed to see inside but they were able to walk around in groups and listen to 5 different presentations about the different aspects of the mansion’s history.
The event drew a lot of attention with over 100 people buying tickets.
“It’s always been the center of attention because it was the biggest house in the whole area," said Rich Allison of the Claysburg P.A.S.T. history group. "The people that lived here just loved living in it. We have people that came from Philadelphia and other outlying areas just to come back to see it. The local people have basically never been through the gates of this place before, and they couldn’t wait to go through it."
